“MOST REMARKABLE” SALE

HUMAN BARGAINS OFFERED [From Our Own Correspondent.] SAN FRANCISCO, July 10. A further indication of the progress of prosperity in the United States is furnished by Hey wood Broun, a columnist of the New York _ ‘ Telegram,’ who has unearthed a unique circular issued by a New York employment agency. It is headed, “The Most Remarkable Sale of the Year Begins Today. Never Before Have Such Wonderful Bargains Been Offered ” Tiie bargains referred to happen to be human. “Due to business depression, wo have in our files for immediate delivery hundreds of thoroughly competent office workers who must be placed at once. Their fornier ‘ values ’ have been disregarded, as it is essential they ‘sell’ themselves*immediately.” Among the “ bargains ” are included: “Bookkeepers (male)—full charge and assistants. Manv with knowledge of stenography and typing. Formerly 20 to 50dol, now 1.5 to 35d01. Secretaries and stenographers—experienced or beginners. Competent and neat. The ‘ best sellers ’ during prosperity. Were 18 to 45d01, now 13 to 30dol Typists—finest selection in town. Accurate and rapid. Well worth 15 to 28dol, now 12 to 23d01. This appears to be a rew form of salesma’ ship or a peculiarly perverted sense of humour.
