SUNDAY SERVICES
Rev. D. C. Herron, M.C., M.A., will conduct both services in Knox Church. The Chamber pf Commerce has accepted an invitation from tho Rev. Mr Stevely, minister of_ First Church, to attend a special service in the evening. Mr Stevely’s subject will bo ‘ The Debt of Christianity to Commerce and the Debt of Commerce to _ Christianity. This is a unique occasion so far as the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce xs concerned, although it is but following tho example of chambers of commerce in England. Members intending to be present will meet in tho vestibule of tho Public Trust Building shortly before the service, which; begins at 6.3 U p.ia. . The Rev. George Miller will conduct both services at xlio North-east Valley Presbyterian Church. The morning subject will bo ‘ Be Generous to Eacii Other,’ and m the evening ‘ The Veil Rent From Top to Bottom.’ ‘ Tho Lord’s Way in Whirlwind and Storm’ will bo the subject to-morrow forenoon in St. Stephen’s Church, and ‘The Bow in the. Cloud—its Promise and Meaning ’ in the evening. The liev, Thomas Miller will bo the preacher. At. the Maori Hill Presbyterian Church' both services will be conducted by' tho Rev. A. C. W, Standage, the subjects being ‘ Witnessing lor Christ ’ and ‘Parents and Modern Youth.’ The Rev. H. E. Bellhouse will conduct both services at Trinity Methodist Church, Stuart street, preaching in tho morning on ‘ Colonists of Heaven,’ and in..the evening on ‘Tho Gospel of tho BoOk of Jon all.’ 'A ” . ;
At the Central Mission, in’ the evenirigj the Rev. G. B. Hinton will give the first of three addresses, in which he will toll the fascinating story of tho great central and slum missions of England, drawing largely upon his own experiences in the great missions of the East End of London. Mr H. Black will be the soloist, and the choir will sing tho anthem, ‘ Peace I Leave With You.’
The Rev. W. H. Hocking will conduct morning worship at {fie Dundas Street Methodist Church to-morrow. The sermon theme will be ‘ How to Gain the Peace of God.’ The evening service will be conducted by the travelling secretary of the Young Men’s Bible Class Union (the Rev. B. Haines). i Tho preacher at St. Kilda Methodist: Church in tho morning will be Rev. B. 11. flames, M.A., secretary of. Methodist Y.M.B.C. In the evening Rev, A. C. Lawry’s subject will be ‘ Man and Manhood.’ ■. The Rev. J. A', Lochore will conduct services in- the Cargill Road Methodist Church to-morrow, preaching on-‘The Church That Never-Dies’ at 11 a.m., and on ‘ Things Wo Need Not Trouble About ’ at C.3U p.in. The Rev. E. S. Tuckwell will conduct services at the Hanover Street Baptist Church on Sunday* In {ho nmrnung the subject will be ‘ The Conquering Power of the Good.’ In the evening Mr Tuckwell will speak upon ‘TurningWater Into Wine. The largo choir under Mr H. P. Desmoulins will lead the singling.
The campaign of special services at tho South Dunedin Baptist Church is being extended. Tho subjects for Sunday are :— Morning: ‘ Wjmt Happens When Wo Don’t Pray?’ Evening: ‘ What Are We Waiting For?’ ‘The Victory of tho King’ will be tho subject of address by Rev. H. E. Edridge at Cavcrsham Baptist Church in the morning, and in tho evening reference will bo made to passing of Mr Alexander Reid, a former secretary of tho church. 4 To-day is tho Door of To-morrow ’ is the closing address of the series entitled ‘ Hints Prom an Old Soldier to a Young Recruit,’ to bo delivered by tho Rev. Albert Mead at the Congregational Church, Moray place, in the evening. Master D.. Alclerton will take the solo part in the anthem, ‘0 For a Closer Walk With God,’ to bo rendered by tho choir. ‘ Living by the 'Faith of Others ’ is the subject of the morning address. Meetings at the Salvation Army Citadel, Dowling street, will be conducted by Captain Albert Chandler, assisted by Lieutenant Morley. The holiness meeting will be held at 11 a.m., and at 3.15 a praise and testimony meeting will be held, at which Captain Chandler will continue his series of addresses on ‘ Herod’s Temple.’ At 6.45 p.m. the popular Salvation meeting will be held, when the captain’s subject will bo ‘ If Not, Then Why Not?’ The citadel band and songsters will take a prominent part at each meeting. At tho Sanitarium Tea Rooms in the evening Pastor Sibley will deal with the doctrine of the return of Christ, the subject being ‘The Second Coming of Christ: is It Romance or Reality?’ At York Place Hall the morning worship and fellowship at the Lord’s table is open to all Christians. The men’s Bible class at 4 o’clock will be led by Mr N. Paterson, and will bo followed by a fellowship tea. At tho evening service Mr Frank Varley will preach. Tho subject, will be ‘ God’s Nothings.’ At tho Spiritualist Church in tho evening Mr R. N. Ridd, tho president, will reply to some of the recent criticisms of Spiritualism. Mr F. C. Cooper will sing, and Miss Burgess will give spiritual messages.
