YESTERDAY’S PARLIAMENT
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES [Pa« Ukitid Fun Association.] The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Mr H. M. Rusbworth (Bay of Islands) presented a petition bearing over 700 signatures praying for the removal of the duties on cereal and vegetable stock foods. Mr H. G. Dickie (Patea) gave notice of intention to introduce the Patea Borough Council Empowering Bill, Mr J. S. Fletcher (Grey Lynn) asked the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr de la Perrelle) whether he would order the withdrawal of the picture ‘Anna Christie ’ from screening at- • a local theatre until it had been subjected to review by the censor. Ho stated that where the picture was not vulgar it was indecent. Mr Fraser: What rot! Other Labour members: Tt is one of the finest picture ever shewn. Mr de la Perrelle said he had not seen the picture, but would make inquiries about it. Replying to Mr A. Hamilton (Wallace), the Minister in Charge of the Electoral Department (Mr Atmore) said that notice had been given of the closing of the rolls in Invercargill for the by-election. It was not correct to state that as many as 500 or 600 had been disfranchised. As the writ had been issued, nothing further could be done now.
The following Bills were introduced and read a first time:—Wellington City Betterment Bill (Mr R. M'Keen), Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill (Mr Stallworthy), Wellington City Milk Supply Amendment Bill (Mr W, H. Field), Rotorua Borough Vesting and Empowering Bill (Mr C. H. Clinkard). The Budget debate occupied the House till midnight.
