PARKING IN STREETS
WARNINGS HAVE LITRE EFFECT COMMENT CT TRAFFIC INSPECTOR That no noticeable• effect has been made in the reduction of unauthorised parking of cars for long periods on the city streets despite the vigorous efforts against the offence, both by warning and court proceedings, is reported by the chief traffic inspector (Mr H. S. M'Nicoll) in his annual statement to ' tbo town clerk.
“ The vexed problem of parking cars on the streets still causes much thought and concern to the department, and, judging from reports from other centres, we are not by any means alone in this respect,” states Mr M'Nicoll. “ As pointed out in last year’s report, motorists still persist in leaving their cars for long periods on the streets in places other than those authorised as parking places. Vigorous efforts have been made to cope with the nuisance, both by warnings and court proceedings, but no noticeable eifect appears to have been made.”
Several new intersection domes had been installed in various places throughout the city, and had fully justified their existence. The duties of the department were further added to by the necessity of inspection and supervision of tbo various omnibuses licensed under the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act. This work was done in conjunction with the inspecting engineer of the Public Works Department. The far-reaching effect of the regulations under the Act involved a. good deal of work outside the regular routine. The results attained had been much more satisfactory than hitherto.
