That it might ho possible to remove the restrictions in connection with the water supply at an early date was predicted by -Cr Begg in moving the Water Committee’s report; at last night’s meeting of the City Council. Cr Begg said that the rainfall for the twontyrfour hours ended yesterday morning was: doss Cm>K, i...up; Sullivan , Dam, 1.53 in; Whare Flat, 2.43iu. Combined with the melting of snow on the hills caused a considerable rise in the creeks. The total gain on the. reservoirs on Tuesday was 17,080,000 gallons. Ross Creek reservoir rose 4ft Sin, and the Sullivan Dam 3ft lOin, proceeded Cr Begg. The water had to bo shut off .the Southern reservoir early on Tuesday owing to the heavier rainfall on the Silverstream catchment, making the water dirty. The heights of the reservoirs yesterday morning, and the quantity in each was; Ross Creek, Bft 9in below overflow, 31,800,000 gallons; Southern, offc lOin, 48,015,000 gallons; Sullivan Dam, Ift 6in, 25,450,000 gallons; service reservoirs, 3,190,000 gallons; a total of 108,455,000 gallons. This was the highest level the reservoirs had reached since March 30 last, and left a shortage still to be made up of 43,000,000 gallons. They were now at practically the same level as when the restrictions were imposed on April 2. From tho statement that had been presented, it could-be seen that they could look forward to—; — A- Councillor: Having a bath. (Laughter.) , . .. Cr Begg; Acs, and to removing tho restrictions at an early date.
