BACKHAUS RECITAL.

TO TUB KJDITOK, Sir, —As one of the many who attended the Backhaus recital last evening, 1 felt that special reference should bo made to the remarkable behaviour of the hundreds of school children present. We know how hard it is to hold the attendance of five children, but when that number swells to 500, well, the position seems _ impossible. Last evening, however, their behaviour was exemplary. Before the recital and during the intervals, they were unchildren, but as soon as Backhaus ‘"made his appearance they were immediately transformed into mature students of music.
