ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
SUICIDE. The circumstances of the death of Lionel Joseph Bellve, aged thirty-two years, a jeweller, of Victoria street, ilamilton, who was found dead in bis shop, were investigated by the coroner yesterday, when a verdict of suicide was returned. It was shown in en« dence that the body was found lying on a mattress on the floor with the end of a gas tuba in the mouth. Near the body was a rifle with a live cartridge in it and the trigger cocked. A note was found intimating the deceased a intention to commit suicide. Detective White, in evidence, stated that the accused had been interviewed on Friday in connection with an alleged crime, which he denied.—Press Association.
ELDERLY COUPLE SERIOUSLY INJURED. Mr George Knight, aged eighty-two, who when he retired year w-as the “father” of the Ashland City Council, and lus wife were both knocked down by a motor van last-night when crossing a road. Both were sent to the hospital in a serious condition.— Press Association telegram..
