WANTED FREE PASSAGES

STOWAWAYS DISCOVERED (Special to the 'Sta*.'] AUCKLAND, August 5. Two stowaways were discovered aboard the Union Company’s steamer Waitemata after the vessel left Newcastle for Auckland last Thursday morning, and they were handed to the police when the vessel arrived hero to-day. Both men wore discovered hiding in a bunker about four hours and a-half after the vessel left Newcastle, and between them they could muster only 2s. At Totara North on Monday four stowaways were discovered on the steamer Katoa bound for Newcastle (New South Wales). When the vessel was abreast of Whangaroa on Saturday morning the commander (Captain Fook) sent the men ashore at Whangaroa in a launch which ho hailed near Stephenson’s Island.
