NEW ANAESTHETIC METHODS More and more is scientific research being called into the field of practical everyday endeavour. That which not long since was regarded as being of secondary importance has achieved full recognition through the benefits it has bestowed. And perhaps in no sphere of operation has its application been so successful as in modern dental practice. A striking example of this is exemplified in Dunedin at the London Dental Parlours, where Mr W. T. Henaghan has installed a M'Kessov “ Nargraf ” aiuesthetic machine, embodying many outstanding improvements for the comfort and' safety of patients. In New Zealand there are only four such machines, Mr Henaghan being the only in the South Island using the “Nargraf ” method. Tlriefly summarised, the M'Kesson “Nargraf” performs those delicate operations of administering and regulating anesthesia with such controlled accuracy that any stage of coma can be instantly effected. Similarly resuscitation is equally simple. Pressure dials and automatic graphs record fractionally the proportions of the various gases used, while a bellows-like apparatus serves the purpose of responding exactly to tho patient’s breathing. In fact, when in operation the machine is almost human in its action. Although perhaps a little complicated to the average layman the value of such methods are at once apparent when it is understood that tho possibility of human error is eliminated. 6830
