■ i ■ —» DROP IN FAT CATTLE PRICES At Burnside to-day fat sheep were not in so largo supply as last week, and at the commencement of the sale wethers were perhaps a little firmer than previously, but later there was a decided drop. Ewes were sold at prices similar to those of last week, there was a considerable drop all round in fat cattle prices. Fat Sheep.—The yarding was made up. of 1,423 head. Several pens of extra prime wethers wore’ in the entry, the best trucks coming from Mr J. Robertson, Tapanui, and Mr Johnson, Waimumu. There was also a number ot trucks of extra prime heavy ewes, while the balance was made up principally of light-weight ewes. The sale of wethers opened, if anything, a little firmer than last week, but after the first two races there was a decided drop in prices, finishing up Is to 2s below the previous values. Ewes showed little variation in price. The top wether price was gained for Mr Johnson’s truck, this being 365, while Mr Robertson’s consignment sold for 34s Gd. All wether mutton was equal to about 5Jd lb. The highest price recorded for ewes was 27s 3d. Light sorts were selling round about £l, which is equal to about 3d lb all round. Fat Lambs,—There were 244 in the penning. It was a very poor entry of lambs, only one or rwo pens being really suitable for butchers. The lambs sold at prices equal to 6]d lb. Prices; Heavy lambs, 22s 3d to 255; medium, 18s to 19s Gd. Store Cattle.—The store cattle were very inferior. isp bullocks were in. only old cows that sold at late rates. Pigs.—There were forty fats and thirty-five stores in the penning. These sold well up to last week’s rates, working out at 9d lb for bacon pigs and 9]d for porkers. ' Fat Cattle.—An entry of 244 head. The yarding included some exceptionally fine consignments. The best came from Messrs Srnail Bros. (Moa Flat), Mrs Bell (Stirling), and Mr E. Lockhead (Stirling). Due to the heavy yarding prime cattle were back about 30s a head, and light cattle about 20s. Mrs Bell’s entry was sold for £23 17s Gd, Messrs Small Bros.’ for £22 10s, and Mr Lockhead’s for £22 10s. These prices were equal to 42s per 1001 b. Prime medium-weight bullocks sold from £l6 to £l9, and light-weights from £l4 to £ls, equal to 45s per 1001 b. Heifers sold well up to £l7. This worked out at 40s per 1001 b, while cows were 355. With one race to sell at the time of going to press there was every indication that prices would improve.
