INDIAN HEROINE'S FATE

'bECALLED ' "WiEDDIim. A Red Indian Princess’s romance of three centuries ago was recalled by the wedding in the village church at Cheam, Surrey, recently, of Dr Ronald S. Harward to Miss Margaret. Lilian Gaston. Dr Harward is the son of the Rev. E. 0. Harward,. English chaplain at Leysin, Switzerland, and some authorities claim to trace the family ancestry back to Hereward the Wake. , His bride is descended from Princess Pocahontas, of Virginia, who died during a visit' to England in 1616 and was buried in St. George’s Church, Gravesend. When the church was destroyed by fire the remains disappeared. The princess saved the life of Captain John Smith, of Willoughby, Lincolnshire; who had been condemned to death by her father, by flinging her body between him and his executioners. Later, when falsely told that he was dead, she mar. ried a young planter. She came to, England the following year and died at Gravesend of a broken heart when she learned that her hero was still living.
