LAUNCH TAKES SHELTER
DRIVEN SOUTH BY GALE [Pun United Pkess Association.] ■ WELLINGTON, July 16. When in the vicinity of Cape Palliser early yesterday morning, Air G. H. Baxter, of Island Bay, and the crew of his launch had the unenviable experience of being caught in a southerly gale that sprang up. The force of the gale was so great that the launch was unable to turn back to return to Island Bay, hut was forced up the coast, finally gaining shelter at Castlepoint. News of the safety of the launch and all on board reached Mrs Baxter at home at about 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon. She said it was a perfect night when Mr Baxter set out for Palliser at midnight on Tuesday. There was not the slightest suspicion of a storm. Airs Baxter said that the launch had a very hard time getting to shelter, and that tho wind was so bad that it could nob turn hack. Tbe partv will remain at Castlepoint until the weather is favourable for its return.
