| THE OFFICIAL FIGURES j [Tee United Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, June 13. There were 5,067 unemployed in the dominion for tho week ended on June 9, according to a statement issued today by the Minister of uabour (the lj Hon. S. G. Smith). Oi this number 2,674 are registered at the labour buri eaux and post offices as being with dependents while 2,395 have no dependents. The total shows a decrease of 192 over tho figures at the end of the previous week. Details of tho registrations in the cities are as follow;
The totals for five centres, with the figures for tho previous week in parentheses, are as follow:—Auckland 1.293 (1,380), Wellington 647 (650), Christchurch 915 (911), Dunedin 267 (336), Invercargill 135 (161), j | REPRODUCTIVE LOCAL SCHEME. ! Graham) brought down a comprehensive scheme j to provide unemployment relief work in I Palmerston North during the winter months, and received the approval of the council to his proposals, j Under the scheme .£I,OOO will bo | transferred from the electricity account, I 1 and with a Government subsidy of £2 for £1 will make available £3,000. This is to be devoted to reading and subdividing a reserve in Fitzherbert | avenue, which will be cut into forty sections suitable for building purposes. ! In addition, £350 is to bo spent prej paring a children’s playing area in Campbell street.
