MISS JOHNSON’S FLIGHT
PLANE REPAIRS TESTED READY TO CONTINUE VOYAGE. Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. RANGOON, May 16, Miss Johnson . made a test flight early this morning, which was very successful. She hovered over tho racecourse and rose 1,200 ft. She stated that the repairs were satisfactory, and she would be leaving between 9 and 10 o’clock for Bangkok. The weather locally is bright. DEPARTURE FOR BANGKOK. RANGOON, May 16. Miss Johnson departed for Bangkok at 10.30 in heavy rain, but tho wind was not strong. Locally the weather suddenly became worse after 9 o’clock. ARRIVAL AT BANGKOK. BANGKOK, May 16. (Received May 17, at 9.35 a.m.) Miss Johnson landed at 5.45 p.m. THE LAST LAP. NO BOATS AVAILABLE. DARWIN, May 17. (Received May 17, at 11.45 a.m.) There are no boats available to patrol the sea between Darwin and Timor in anticipation of the arrival of Miss Johnson. A Quantas plane arrived yesterday from Brisbane. The Government Resident at Darwin has been instructed to accord Miss Johnson a welcome on behalf of tho Government. THE RETURN JOURNEY. LONDON, May 16. (Received May 17, at 11.45 a.m.) The ‘ Daily Mail’s ’ Rangoon correspondent states that Miss Johnson before her departure asked for information regarding the return journey. She was strongly advised not to. come north of Penang before October 15, owing to the dangerous conditions. She said later: ‘ 1 have not quite decided to sell tho machine in Australia and return by steamer.” AN. OFFER OF MARRIAGE. LONDON, May 16. (Received May 17, at 9.10 a.m.) Among shoals of congratulatory Jotters which reached Miss Amy Johnson’s Hull home was one containing an offer of marriage, but her father says that no man has any chance with Ins daughter while there is an peroplanc about. She is hoping to seefire a post as an air mail pilot when she returns.
