SUNDAY SERVICES

Harvest thanksgiving services will be held at First Church. In the morning the Rev. Albert Mend , will preach on ‘ The Garden of /God,’ and Miss Margaret Greene will sing 1 Benediction.’ in the evening the Rev. Dr Hunter’s subject will be ‘ The God of the Open Hand.’ Th anthem will be ‘ The Earth is the Lord’s,’ and Miss Margaret Howden will sing ‘ Nearer, My God, to Thee.’

In Knox Church the morning service will bo conducted by the Rev. J. Douglas Smith, who will preach on 4 Moved with Compassion.’ The Rev. E. J. Tipler will conduct the evening service, when his subj< - t will be 4 Seeing the Unseen.’ _ . The sixtieth anniversary or Rosiyn Presbyterian Sunday School will be celebrated in the church. The Rev. E. J. Tipler will preach in the morning, and the Rev. W. A. Hamblett (St. Matthew’s) will address a special Sunday school scholars’ gathering in the afternoon. The Rev. 11. Ferguson Fish will occupy the pulpit at tlie evening service. The preacher in St. Stephen’s Church will be the Fev. Thomas Miller. His subject in the morning will bo 4 The Ordained Elders - in Every Place,’ and in the evening ‘ The Power of Christ Over Life and Death.’ Both services at the Maori Hill Presbyterian Church will be conducted by the Rev. A. C. W. Standage, the subjects being ‘The Opening of Closed Doors,’ and 4 The Adventure of Faith.’ The services at the North-east Valley Presbyterian Church will be conducted by the Rev. George Miller. The subject in the morning will be 4 The Sufferings of Christ,’ and in the evening 4 The Pilgrim’s Progress—Simple, Sloth, and Presumption.’ The organist will be Mr R. K. Maclie. At the Hanover Street Baptist Church the morning service will be taken by the Rev. E. S. Tuckwell, whose subject will be 4 The Secret of Renewal.’ In the evening the Rev. Joseph Kemp, of Auckland, the president of the New Zealand Baptist Union, will conduct the service. The choir will render the hymn studies ‘Hark! My Soul,’ and 4 In a Garden.' 1 Communion will follow. The special campaign at the South Dunedin Baptist Church will be continued by ' services conducted by the Rev. Stanley Jenkin. On Wednesday evening the Rev. J. W. Kemp, of Auckland, president of the Baptist Union, will speak. At the Mornington Baptist Church services will be conducted _ morning, afternoon, and evening in connection with the anniversary of the church. The speakers for the day are Dr E. N. Merriugton, of Knox College, the Rev. Joseph W. Kemp, of Auckland, and the Rev. Lawrence A. North. There will be special solos and anthems at these services. The Rev. G. Clement will conduct the morning service at Trinity Methodist Church, Stuart street, and the Rev. H. E. Hinton will preach on ‘ Communion Aspect of Prayer.’ In the evening Miss Muriel Palmer, from the Moslem missions of Egypt, will preach on 4 Dgypt: i -dlenge.’ Mr .Ron. Duncan will sing ‘ A Dream of Paradise,’ and the choir will render the anthem 4 Peace, Be Still.’ . , Young People’s Day services will be condo ;ted at the Dundas Street Methodist Church. Mr \ G. Macfarlane will occupy the pulpit at the morning service. The evening preacher wul be the Rev. W. H. Hocking, whose subject will lie ‘A Life Based on Certainties.’ The Rev. A. C. Lawry will preach in the St Kilda Method’-t Church. The evening subject will bo ‘ The City with no Dark Streets.’ Young People’s Day is being observed in, the Cargill Road Methodist Church. The Rev. A. R. Penn will conduct the morning service, and the Rev. J. A. Lochore the evening. Ac the latter service a rally of the members of the various young people’s organisations of the church is to take place, and the Bible classes are to take a prominent part in the service. At the Congregational Church, Moray place in the morning, the Rev. N. tit. Finch will occupy the pulpit, and will speak on 4 National Peace.’ In the evening the Rev. Albert Mead wiU conduct the service, and will take a» his subject John Masefield’s poem, 4 The Everlasting Mercy.’ At York Place Hall, all Christians are welcome at the morning worship and fellowship at the Lord’s table. At the evening service Mr Frank "Farley will preach. His subject will be ‘ Going On or Drawing Back?’ At the Dowling Street Citadel of the Salvation Ai - ray, special farewell services to Major and Mrs Beasy will be conducted by Adjutant Nelson. At 1* a.m. a holiness convention will be held, which will be followed by a rousing praise meeting at 3.15 p.m.. At 7 p.m. the usual salvation meeting will take the form of a final farewell gathering. At the Higher Thought Centre, Y.W.C.A. Hall, Cilia Enid Bates conducts two healing meetings, first, 7-8 p.m., 4 Resist Not Evil’; and second, (after church) 8.15-9 p.m., ‘The Lifting Power of Higher Thought.’ At this meeting Mr R. B. Macdonald will sing ‘ Hold Thou My land.’ Peace and life silences, and healing concentrations for those sick or in trouble, at both meetings. At the Spiritualist Church in the evening, Mrs Arthur Watson will be the speaker, her subject being 4 Sunshine and SHadow,* After the address Miss Burgess will give spiritual messages.
