- MONTHLY MEETING' Cr J. W. Blair (presided. at the inonthly meeting- of the Taieri County Councils • ‘ REPORTS. The Financial Committee reported that the receipts for the past month had been £613 Is Bd, and recommended payment of accounts totalling £..,222 8s Id. The bank book showed a credit balance of £2.884 5s sd.— Adopted. . After detailing the surfacing work for the month Inspector Garrett recommended as -follows Kaikorai Riding.—That - ISQyds of metal be run out on the Kaikorai Valley road. Regarding the letter from the Dunedin City Corporation copcerning the washout on .Dalziel street, Brockvillej which had been referred to, Gr Stevenson and himself to report, they recommended that the city engineer 4 estimate of £250 for a 36m pipe culvert be approved, and that .the work he earned out. The settlers would then; be -;able to use that road on which to drive stock. Deep Stream Riding.— That if suitable, arrangements could bo made with the present contractor while he was on tli© ground .to run out 250yds of gravel oh the soft portion between Clarks and Deep Stream on Clark’s to the Rook and Pillar road. That 100yds of maintenance gravel ho spread on Wo. 2 Highway from Clark a to Mount Gpwrie.—The recommendations were agreed to. CORRESPONDENCE.
The secretary Taieri branch of the' Plunket Society solicited a donation for the current year.—The usual donation to be given. . . ' Messrs Downie Stewart and Payne, on behalf of W. and J. S. Martin, asked for the council’s consent to subdivision of their property at Fairfield. --Granted. _ ' Mr B. Fletcher Roberts wrote regarding road into gravel beach, Taien Stiver, and advising that it would bo i necessary to acquire a small area of land from- the adjoining owner. He enclosed a tracing'of the proposed road, line.—Adjoining owner’s offer accepted. ’ . ~. David Miller, Brighton, renewed his application for a permit to erect a petrol bowser at his place under the same conditions as last application.—■ Cm M'lntosh and Stevenson to interview Mr, Miller regarding position of lUjWiOl m T. L. Stevens, Middlexnarch, applied foiv permission to erect a dual petrol bowser outside his premises. Snow avenue. —Application granted. With regard to a previous decision to charge » fee of £5 for bowsers, the council rescinded this, and fixed the charge at £2. George H. Lee, Brighton, directed attention to a crib on a section next hia own on the foreshore at Brighton not being up to standard design.—To be referred to the inspector to report at next meeting. The town clerk,- Outram Town Board, wrote regarding the road from West Taieri Bridge to the railway station.—A place to be made for it in the allocations next year. Margaret Grant, Outram, wrote relative to pollution of Duck Creek through her property by discharge of whey from the local cheese factory. —The matter had been already at-
bonded to. James Cookson, jun.,. Woodside, ««ked for-permission to trap opossums on Maungatua Domain.—The clerk to inquire into the matter. Edwin Smith, Henley, suggested the platoting. of suitable trees* along the Main South road wijjj money from ijjpppy Day Funds.—Received.
The Commissioner of Grown Lands, wrote regarding section, 18, block 11, Mount * H£de, and asked of council desired a portion retained as a quarry reserve.—The council did not desire this to ho retained as a quarry reserve. /
P. M‘Hae, Sutton, pointed out the need of a bridge' oyer Rock Creek on the. low road to Middlemarch, and reminding council of its decision to apply for a grant for this work.—A Government grant to be applied for. Mrs Gibbs wrote asking for an accessible road to her property on Saddle Hill. —Left with the member for the riding and £he inspector with power to act. ' ■ • • .

Graham, Hindon, wrote asking for a subsidy for repairs to the cemetery.—Tlie inspector apd the member to confer with settlers with power to act. , The town clerk, Dunedin, wrote ad-vising-,that the boundary road, Riselaw road, required attention, and askiiig that the customary half cost be paid.—The clerk and the member for the' riding, to . confer- with . the town clerk. ‘ GENERAL. ' The chairman, the clerk, and the inspector reported on their visit to the conference held recently in Dunedin with regard to the. appointment of, heavy traffic inspectors.—After discussion it was decided to continue the present arrangements, within the county. Cr Stevenson brought up the matter of Wilkinson Rill deviation in Kaikorai riding. He asked for a 4Qft road instead of a 66ft one.—The clerk to apply for the 40ft road. _Cr Findlay reported on his inspection of Whare Flat road. - Gorse was growing in the water tables, and if the adjoining owners cleared- this way the road would be in good order.
