WARRINGTON AMENITIES SOCIETY
The annual meeting of the Warrington Amenities Society was held in the sohoolhouse, Mr J. L. Salmon presiding. The annual report and balancesheet were presented. The main work of the year was the extension of the fence to protect the beach and the acquisition of the plantation property. The year began with a debit, .Mid ended with a credit balance of £25 18s 4d. The election of office-bearers resulted: Mr J. L. Sahnoud, president (re-elected); Mr J. B. Wales, . secretary; Mr Don Mackay, assistant secretary; council—Messrs A. Allan, F. Baker, H. D. W. Brewer. J. G. Butler. Clark, H. Couper, T. Dallas, Dr Falconer, D. Fergusson, Findlay. Ambrose Hudson, _F. M‘Ahan, D. Phillips, 0. Stanley Smith. J. C. Stephens, and A. E. Tyrrell. Thanks were expressed to the local school, commiltec for its assitance. On Easter Saturday the society, assisted by the committee, Held a successful concert which was followed by a dance. _ Mr Salmond, in opening tho proceedings, advised those present of the purchase on behalf of the. public of the sixteen acres plantation between the inner hay and the beach. Debentures of £5 free of interest would be issued to make this possible, and the finance had been arranged sufficient to enable them to accept the offer of the sellers. The society proposed this coming year to build a shelter and carry out other improvements on the foreshore- for the convenience and comfort of the visiting public. To enable it to effect these changes he asked all to assist the society when , they _ ran a large beach carnival next Christmas holidays. Mr J. A, Haggitt then conducted community singing, the songs being written on the blackboards. Those who assisted at the concert were Afr T. J. Kirk-Burnand (pianoforte solo), Mr Syd Angel! (song). Mr Geo. Salmond (songs). Miss Macphcrson (songs), Miss Newbolt (musical monologue, witfi Miss Anita Winkel at the piano), sketch and humorous songs by Mr Haggitt. and duet, by Messrs Haggitt and Butler. Mr Salmond thanked all who had assisted. During the holidays a small party repaired the‘gaps in the sandhill fences. They propose to hold a working bee this month so as .to extend the fence another fifty yards. ' As an experiment wire netting and sacking will be used to see if this will collect the sand.
