MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunkct Society was held in die Plunkct office on Thursday. There ere present Mcsdames Johnstone (in 3 chair), Joseph M'Goorgo, Manden, , 'G. M'Georgc, Williams, W. Wilson, ss Oppenheim, and the secretary, pologies were received from Mesdames inningliamc, L. i'. Cleghorn, Cairuey, arshall Macdonald, and Sister Nora. A letter was received intimating that icir Excellencies the Governor-General .■nd Lady Blcdisloo were pleased to acept the office of patrons of the Royal mw Zealand Society for the Health of , omen and Children (Plunket Sooty). Mesdames J. M. M'George and W. Wilson, together with Mesdames J. A. Johnstone and Joseph M'George (joint conveners of the House Committee), were appointed as a Visiting Committee to visit the Karitauc-Harris Hospital on Wednesday, May 7, and Mesdames Williams and Mandcno and the conveners of the House Committee were appointed to visit Hid hospital on Thursday, May id. The Matron of the Karitanc-Hams Hospital reported as follows tor the month, ended March 31Patients admitted during the month, 16 mothers, 26 babies; patients discharged, IS mothers, 2D babies; largest number in residence any one day, 6 mothers, 25 babies. Patients were admitted from Outram, Oamaru, Akaroa, Balclutha, and Dunedin and suburbs. There were 270 visitors to the hospital during the month.. The Karitane nurses’ examination was held on Thursday and Friday, March 13 and 14. the following were the candidates for the examination:— Karitane nurses: Joyce Watson, Nellie Lewis, Jessie Yondale, Edna Ferguson, Frances Mac Gibbon, and Molly Bcllerby. The Plunket nurses’ examination was held on March 26 and 27, the following being the candidates for the term;—Nurses E. M. Goulstone, L. J. Tingev, G. B. Marshal), F. D. Watkins, M. White, H. G. Francis, J. W. Malcolm, J. H. Lloyd, N. G. Strachan, M. A. Minogue, M. N. Biss, M, K. Porter, M. Neil, M. Welby, E. Prichett, 11. N. Elliott, E. E. Faithful, M. N. Arnold, V. D.. Nathan, W. D. Overy. The Plunkct Purses for North and Central Dunedin districts reported lor the month: —Babies on the list, 937; older children on the list, 215; babies breast-fed (including partly), 263; new cases for the month (babies only), 33; babies breast-fed _ (including partly), new cases, 30; visits paid to homes, 581; visits paid to Plunkct rooms, Stuart street —241 mothers, 181 babies, 36 older children; Roslyn—l6omothers, 153 babies, 12 older children; Mornington—72 mothers, 71 babies, 16 older children; North-east Valley —9U mothers, 70 babies, 22 older children; Kelsey-Yaralla _ Kindergarten mothers, 76 babies, 36 older children; bottles of humanised milk sent out from I’aieri and Peninsula Dairy, 1,662. The Plunkct nurse for South Dunedin district reported for the month: — Babies on the list, 452; babies breastfed (including partly), 140; new oases tor the month (babies only), 13; babies breast-fed (including partly), new eases, 13; visits paid to homes, 280; visits paid to Plunket rooms, King Edward street, South Dunedin—24s mothers, 238 babies, 25 older children.
