JEWELLED OSTRICH
DIAMONDS IN SHOT BIRD. Hunting for diamond-eating ostriches is the latest industry in South Africa. A native in the Kalahari Desert shot an ostrich with a bow and arrow, and found twenty rough gems in its gizzard. Ho sold Ins find for a fortune and set out, with other tribesmen, to track down other treasure-carrying birds Organised hunts have now been formed by men using modern rifles. One recent “prize” was an ostrich which yielded fifty-three valuable stones, while another killed had made a meal of seventeen gems. .
