During the past fortnight meetings of lodges of the 1.0.0. F. were held in their respective lodge rooms;— Unity, No. 16: In the absence of the N.G., Bro. Holley, P.G., presided'over a fair attendance. Visiting Committee, reported an increase in the number of sick brothers visited, who expressed their appreciation of the attention received, and this amply compensated members for any time occupied in making so many calls. Caversham Lodge, M.Ui1.0.0.F., wrote offering to play the regular half-yearly card tournament in Unity Hall on March 31, and this was agreed to. Standing Committee was complimented on the appearance of the interior of the hall, which has been newly renovated, members and visitors commenting favourably on the' artistic and attractive nature of the work done. During the recess the quarterly card tournament for the Gillespie trophy was played between teams representing the N.G. and V.G. respectively, the result being a win for the latter team. The Syllabus Committee submitted a report and new syllabus for insertion in the ‘Hand Book.’ The report was received and the committee thanked for tho satisfactory work done. The vote of welcome, was responded to by Bro. R. Kirkham, D.D.G.M., Bro, Gordon, G.L. Hep. (Clutha Lodge), and Bro. Griffiths (Pioneer).

Pioneer, No. 1: N.G. Pro. J. Olsen presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. Sick reports were received, and claims passed _ for payment. Correspondence was received from Wellington Lodge re a sick member. A Welfare Committee was appointed to facilitate the visits to sick members, districts being allotted to various officers who reside in the vicinity. N.G. and V.G. were appointed as delegates to meet the 4 Hand Book’ Committee on the 31st at Unity Hall to make final arrangements for the new issue. P. 6. Bro. 11, M'Kinley and P.G. Bro. E. Morris wore unanimously re-elected to represent Pioneer Lodge on the U.F.S.D. Board. Secretary drew members attention to the new and favourable rates for junior members of the order, and expressed the opinion that the _ concession would be the means of assisting the youths who were earning only a small wage. He trusted the older members would take an interest in explaining the details to any young men desiring to join a friendly society. A resolution of thanks and confidence was passed in the lodge surgeon. Dr Fergus, members speaking very highly of the attention received at all times. The half-yearly election of officers took place', and resulted in Bro. Boswell being elected Noble Grand, and Bro. Meinung Vicogrand; P.G. Bro. M'Arthnr was re? elected secretary, and Bro. G. Latimer treasurer. A pleasant hour was spent in a card match among the members and visitors, after which super was pro.vided by the lodge. The vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by D.D.G.M, Bro. Kirkbam, P.G. Bro. Ff. Jones (Leith), V.G. Bro. A. Gallic (Linden), P.G. Bro. G. D. Smart (St. Kilda). Maori Hill, No. 86: P.D.D.G.M. Bro.. M. K. Glover presided over a good meeting. Sick claims on behalf of two brothers were passed far payment. Alter routine business the syllabus item 4 Question Box ’ proved very acceptable, and _ a pleasant hour was spent dealing with the various questions of interest. Tig addition Bro. M'Arthnr gave a very instructive account of the various benefits received by members, drawing attention to many advantages which are perhaps not widely known by tho ordinary member. A resolution of thanks and appreciation was accorded Bro. M'Arthnr for bis timely information. ft was resolved to arrange a debate lor next meeting, teams to bo selected by N.G. and V.G. P.G. Bro. Leith. No. 4: N.G. Bro. K. Clarke presided over a fair attendance of members, and the report from Visiting Committee was received. It was pleasing to note a much reduced number on the sick list. Routine business was dealt with promptly, and a recess was called to enable a card match to be held. In response to a vote of thanks to the visitors G.L. Rep. Bro. Gordon (Clutha Lodge) expressed his pleasure at being present, and conveyed greetings from his own lodge and also on behalf of Kawarau (Cromwell), P.G. Bro. M'Bride, of Alfred Lodge, Oamaru, also responded, and mentioned that tho various lodges in his district had happy recollections of the recent official visit by the South Otago District members to Oamaru, and expressed the hope a similar visit will be arranged at an early date. Linden, No. 19: N.G. Bro. Kitto presided over a large attendance. Secretary Bro. Joseph reported that a fraternal visit had been paid to Bro. Jones, of Palmerston, a very old member and P.G. of Linden Lodge. Although t now an old man_ and very frail, his interest in the doings of the order is still keen, and the very evident pleasure the visit of his fellowmembers afforded him was an object lesson to the visitors, and he (Bro. Joseph) considered Linden Lodge was doing the right and proper thing in attempting, where possible, to carry out such visits. Correspondence was received from Vincent Lodge (Alexandra) inviting members to visit their lodge and conduct the initiatory ceremony. Resolved that a visit be made - at Easter. Lodge then went into committee to appoint an adult committee for Highgate Juvenile Lodge. Bro. Cazser, in a neat speech, eulogised the services rendered to the Juvenile Lodge by the worthy Past Presidents Bros. E. Wise, M. K. Glover, and R. R. Hendry, and expressed the thanks of the adult lodge. President M. K.. Glover, in responding, assured members of his desire to carry on, realising that in the juvenile members tho lodge had the adult members of tho future. . Past President Hendry acknowledged the thanks of the lodge. A very pleasant hour was then spent in social intercourse, cards, bowls, etc., after which supper was handed round. The vote of thanks was responded to by D.D.G.M. Bro. Kirkham, G L. Rep. Bro. Gordon (Clutha), Bro M‘Brid© (Oamaru), Bro Carson (St. Kilda) St. Kilda No. 87.—N.G. Bro. Childs presided over a fair attendance. The secretary reported that Bro. Johnson was still improving, but some weeks would elapse before he could resume work Several apologies were received from absent members. Bro. G. D. Smart intimated that Bro. Doughty, of Wanganui Lodge, recently visiting Dunedin, hod expressed his pleasure at tho various kindnesses received from tho Dunedin members, and would like them to know he appreciated their thoughtfulness. After the routine business the members and visitors spent a pleasant hour in a friendly game of cards. Bro. R. Kirkham, D.D.G.M., and Bro. Gallic (Linden) responded to a vote of thanks to tho visitors. . Ruth Rebekah No. 4.—N.G. Sister C. Kilpatrick presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. Marks, P.G., | reported that the recent combined picnic had been a most pleasant one, I and, although not attended by as many | members as expected, there was a small I credit balance. A report was received from the auditors drawing attention to 1 the decided improvement in the finances of the lodge. Several members spoke in very high terms of the work carried out by the secretary, Sister M. Miller, attributing the satisfactory conditions to her care and hard work. Sister M‘Arthur expressed the opinion that the average member was quite unaware of the amount of detail work involved in the position of secretary of a lodge. As a mark of appreciation and recognition the lodge resolved to increase Sister Miller’s honorarium. Sister Miller acknowledged the decision of the lodge, and expressed her willingness to carry on the work. The decision of the lodge had come' as a complete surprise to her, but it was very gratifying to think her work had given satisfaction. D.D.G.M. Sister Dobson intimated that she would be absent for the installation _ ceremony at Ruth Lodge next meeting, but P.L.D.D.G.M. 'Sister Wilson had consented to carry out the duties. She also announced that Miriam Lodge was holding euchre and a social on Monday, and she hoped to see a good gathering of members. Sister Dobson referred to the decision of the Rebekah members to assist on Poppy Day by arranging a stall, the organising being in the hands of iSister Crooke, who would explain the details. Sister Crooke briefly outlined the object as a desire to assist in a tangible manner the annual sale of poppies. Although in tho_ past individual members may nave assisted, no organised effort had been made by the Rebekah Lodges. She said she had already promises of assistance from sisters willing to help, but she would still like a number more to come along and relieve the helpers at the stall, which would be situated in front of the Exchange Building. Bro. Josephs expressed his pleasure at the energetic manner in which the Rebekah sisters were moving in such a good cause, and expressed the hope that the members of the male lodges would not forget to pay a visit to the LO.O stall -on poppy day. In fact, he felt certain they would make a special effort to do so. After the routine business the members ami visitors spent a pleasant social hour with musical items, etc., after which supper was served by the members.
