AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON VISITORS' SECOND INNINGS [Paa United Pbkts Association.l WELLINGTON, March 10. The Blanket Snield match Wellington v. Auckland was resumed to-day in glorious weather. Mills (2Ui anu Anthony (13 jeontinued Auckland’s second innings to the bowling of Henderson (who opened from the southern end) and M‘Girr (bowling with * the wind). The batsmen started confidently, both scoring with well-placed shots. Alter ten minutes’ play Anthony reached 30 by cutting M'Girr through the slips for 4. In Henderson’s third over Hollings dropped Anthony in the slips. Sixty appeared on the board alter twenty minutes. Gailichau then relieved Henderson (none for 23 off six overs). The bowling change had little effect on the scoring, and tho total mounted steadily. Mills reached 40 after half an hour. Anthony also reached 40, and sent 90 up by cutting M‘Girr for a single.Lowry took over from Galhchan, whose three overs had cost 18 runs. M'Girr was causing the batsmen little difficulty, and when Anthony drove him for 4 100 appeared after the innings had been in progress for an hour. M'Girr (none for 44 off thirteen overs) then gave way to Massey. Lowry bowling round the wicket with eight men on the icg side. These tactics kept tho batsmen quiet. At midday Anthony played on a ball from Massey. He had given a bright display, his total including seven 4’s. 110—1—50. Weir was next. The scoring was slower for a period, Lowry keeping runs down and Massey howling a good length. Mills reached 50 after battling smin. Tho play was not as attractive as previously, the batsmen having a difficulty in getting the ball away. Only 10 runs came off Lowry’s first nine overs. Weir endeavoured to brighten matters by opening out on Lowry, but ho could not connect properly. When ho was 21 Weir cocked one up from Massey, but tho bowler could not get to it. Woir later became aggressive, and met with more success, in trying to score off Lowry, 14 coming off the Wellington captain’s fifteenth over. At 172 JTLeod relieved Massey.
