ATHLETIC COUNCIL’S ATTITUDE FAVOURS PREFERENCE FOR ROWERS [Pwt Unitej Prim Amocuxtok.! * WELLINGTON, March 8. > At last nighr s meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, lha secretary (Mr L„ A. Tracy) said that in connection with! the Empire Games matters had readied a point where the main question was the distribution of £I,OOO which had been offered by Canada. In view of the excellent rowing eight which would be available, and especially as a hold-up had occurred before the last Olympic Games and a rowing eight had been unable to leave, it was felt that New Zealand should be represented in this w--.' It would cost roughly £BOO to send an eight and the .'question he wished to place before the meeting was whether the Amateur Athletic Association would be prepared to forego its share of the Canadian grant in favour of the rowing eight. The meeting decided to adopt this' course and urge the individual sports to appeal for fund? on their own be*’ half.
