OCEAN BEACH IMPROVEMENTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your correspondent “ Wake Up, Dunedin,” in yesterday’s issuo_ is very refreshing to me. , His suggestion as a whole is admirable, and one to he seriously considered by tho community. When we can get a crowd of 9,000 people to attend a one night’s entertainment to wa,tcli speed fiends trying to break their necks, I personally do not think it says much for their intelligence when a scheme like the above, which from a health point of view is a life one for us and the future generations, is like a cry in the wilderness. Let people ask ' themselves seriously would they nob rather pay a toll of 3d, say, with a Id for children, for hours of Alelight with perfect safety to alt (instead of, as. in dirt track racing, waiting for the next spill), and seeing their children also enjoying themselves in Nature’s surroundings in the fresh air and sunshine. Tea gardens, tennis, etc., would bo revenue producing. What have we now? A cesspool of filth at the St. Hilda end, opposite the Central Batery—actually a rubbish tip. In such surroundings is it fair? Certainly not.—l am, etc., Advance Otago. Februarv ,28.
