TOURIST ACTIVITIES WHAT IS BEING DONE [Special to tub • Star.'] WELLINGTON, February 23. In line with the north, attention is being given by the Tourist Department to the attraction of the South Island. Referring to-day to South Island resorts, the Hon P. A. do la Perrcllo (Minister in charge of the Tourist and Publicity Departments), said the scenic attractions of the South Island were now being brought prominently before the Australian public, especially in Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania, by means of films, window displays, newspaper advertisements, write-ups, tiie circulating of suitable literature, and photographs throughout the hotels and selected clubs and institutions. “ Much headway has been made,” he said. “The tour which is being prominently featured at the present time is a sixteen-day trip, Melbourne to Bluff, Invercargill, Kingston, Queenstown, Pembroke, Lake Wanaka, Cromwell, Dunedin, Bluff, Melbourne, costing £ll3, which provides for . saloon steamer fares, first-class hold accommodation, and all rail and-motor lares and meals cn route. This tour is designed to meet the needs of many who cannot spend a long holiday; but lor those who can spare an extra week, the tom- is extended to include Lakes Te Anna and Manapouri; while a more extended tour embraces Mount Cook, the Franz .Joseph glacier, the Wanganui River, Tougariro National Park, Wairakei, Rotorua, and Waitonio caves.

( The attention of tourists in New South Wales is also being directed to the Afelbounic-HlufT service. Tho Australian coastal service enables the South Island trip to bo done in twenty days from Sydney to Sydney.” Publicity drives for both Islands are, now in progress, tho result of one of the first instructions given by tyhc Hon. P. A. de la Perrello upon his assuming control of the departments of Tourists and Publicity. 'These aim at popularising all the chief resorts of both Islands.
