NEARLY ELECTROCUTED. Herbert C. Oaten, aged thirty-seven, a married engineer employed by the Cambridge Power Board, had a narrow escape trora being fatally electrocuted IP the early hours of this morning while working on alterations to the Leamington sub-station. He was up on a short ladder when his head came into contact with the 3,000-yolt line. Oaten was flung into the air and fell on the concrete floor of the station, unconscious After a doctor had rendered first-aid he was taken home, and did not regain complete consciousness until eight hours later. He sustained severe burns to the back of his head; also the fingers of his left hand were slightly burnt, and his back injured by the fall. Under the circumstances ho had a close call.—Press Association. FOUND IN CREEK. "William Richard Snell, a married man, employed on the public works at Waihua, was found in a creek yesterday afternoon (states a Wairoa message), with his throat out and a sandbag wired round his neck. He had been in ill-health for some time. He told his wife, who keeps the ccckhouse, that he was going for firewood. Anxiety was felt later when be failed to return, and a search was made with the above result. FIRE BRIGADES’ DEMONSTRATION. [Fib TJkitbd Fazsa Assocutiox.} OAMARU, March 1.
