PERSECUTION BY SOVIET STATEMENT BY CHIEF RABBI Presi Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. RIGA, February 27. (Received February 28, at 10 a.m.) The Chief Rabbi of the Minsk region, in a statement, exonerates the Soviet from all blame for persecution of Jews in Russia. He adds: “The Soviet is the only Government which has successfully combated anti-semitism. Where' synagogues have been closed down it is because congregations have expressed a desire for it.’ 1 Clerical circles in Riga consider that the declaration is duo to coercion.
