HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital anl Charitable Aid Board was hold last night and attended by Messrs W. E. S. Knight (chairman),' A, F. Quelcb, J, W. Dove, D. M'Lennan, J. W. Scurr, W. Morgan, Dr Nowlands, Mrs VV. M. Macdonald, Miss Runciman, and Mrs W. Ross. THE BTANDFIELD CASE, Elliott Standfield wrote re-applying for assistance. He stated that his position was desperate, and that if assistance were not_granted he would be forced to go into the streets, his last refuge. At present he was living on frugal fare, which would not allow him even a cup of tea a day when eating his scanty meal of an onion, bread, and dripping. He was also in need of clothes He asked if the board desired him to go into the streets, or would it provide for him in accordance with the decision of Mr Bundle, S.M., upon his trial? Mr Scun moved that the letter be received, but his motion lapsed for want of a seconder. Mr Morgan moved that the letter be referred to the Benevolent Committee. Mr M'Lennan seconded the motion, which was carried. ACCOUNTS REMITTED. Accounts amounting to £2,952 Os 7d for maintenance in tbe various institutions of the board were remitted through inability to pay and other reasons. CERTIFICATES GRANTED. The medical superintendent recommended that T.B. nursing certificates be issued to Misses Monica Toboy and Avice Williams.—Approved. APPOINTMENT. Miss Francos J. Hakes was appointed night siste r at the Pleasant Valley sanatorium. There were four applicants for the position. MASSAGE SCHOOL. The following applied for enrolment as massage pupils:—R. A. Dobbie, L. M. Wallis, M. E. Mandeno, J. E. Napier, Joan Cottrell, E. M. Crawshaw, J. M. Macavoy, and Vivian Grey.— Noted.
