IMPORTANT BUSINESS The monthly meeting of the Otago A. and P. Society was held in tho boarti room yesterday afternoon, Mr Arthur Johnson in the chair. Tho Finance Committee's report recommended the payment 'of accounts amounting to £liU 9s 4d.—Agreed-to. The Clydesdale Horse Society’s offer of £lO 10s as a special prize to be awarded at the annual horse parade was referred to tho Horse Committee with power to act. It was decided to hold over the suggestions that tho conditions in the amateur section, for sheep be altered and made to provide for uncovered or natural conditions. The Sheep Committee is to report at the next meeting. The following are tho retiring members of the committee:—Dunedin--Messrs S. Bowman, E. C. Hazlett, H. Price, H. Turner, and C. Todd; Bruce and Clutha district, Messrs A. King and J. Sim; Palmerston and Waiherao district. Messrs G. Ross and E. M. North; Taieri district, Messrs J. Young and A. Johnson; Central Otago, Messrs A. M'Kinnon and J. Little. On the motion of Mr D. J. Ross, seconded by Mr R. T. Kirk, these members were duly nominated for re-election at the annual meeting. . . The ‘Wellington Show Association wrote in reference to the charges for space for the display of Government exhibits.—lt was decided that it the application for space was reasonable no charge should bo made, and that the Wellington Show Association be advised accordingly. ’ Tho Hawke’s Bay Agricultural Society wrote enclosing a copy of the following resolution passed by it, and asked for this society’s support:—■ “ That the attention of the Government bo directed to the absurd situation of America importing cattle from the Channel Islands, passing them on to New Zealand for sale without let or hindrance, and exploiting the New Zealand breeders; and, further, urging that the importation of cattle, sheep, and swine, etc., from the United States of America be prohibited.”—lt was decided to support tho resolution and communicate with the Minister of Agriculture to that effect.

The Royal Agricultural Society wrote asking the committee to review „he list of judges and make; any necessary changes of address.—lt was decided that the Royal Agricultural Society be advised that the committee considers that the pure-bred breeding societies should compile the list of judges, and in other classes to be nominated by the agricultural society. Several letters making a number of suggestions in connection with the competition in the dairy and home industries section were referred to the various sub-committees. The New Zealand C6-operative Rennet Company, Eitham, wrote advising that it was willing to offer a perpetual challenge cup and an annual cash prize of £2O, to be divided as follows: — First £lO. second £5, third £3, and fourth £2, for best white or coloured cheese made wiili New Zealand Cooperative rennet.—The prize was accepted with thanks. A letter received from the New Zealand dairy factory managers, making suggestions in connection with the choose and butter competition, was referred to the Cheese Committee to act. It was decided to communicate with the kindred societies of the South Island suggesting that a conference be held during Show Week to discuss several matters affecting the society’s interests, and particularly to arrange the fixing of dates for the summer shows. It was stated that the Oamaru, Otago, Gore, and Southland Shows were mainly regulated bv the date on which the Christchurch‘Show is held, and it was recognised that the conferences held in the past had been able to arrange satisfactorily show dates *lo meet the requirements of all the different associations.
