INQUEST ADJOURNED. Mrs Mai lies, wife of the engineer of the Kawarau Dam (Mr E. J. lies), died suddenly at her home, Chatto Ci;cek. on Monday evening. She had spent the afternoon with Tier husband at Clyde, and on her return left him to put the car away and entered the house. Following her a few minutes later, Mr lies found- her lying on the bed in the front room, evidently in great pain. A doctor was summoned,, but arrived to find her dead. An inquest was opened at the residence yesterday afternoon, Mr J. M'Knight, J.P., of Ophir, sitting as coroner, with a jury of four. Evidence of identification was taken, and the inquiry. was adjourned until March 3 to allow of a post mortem examination being made. SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES. Richard McGrath, aged twenty-three, a lorry driver, received serious head injuries last evening through the vehicle capsizing over a bank at Mt. Pleasant. His conditions is critical.—Christchurch Press Association telegram. LEG INJURIES. Francis Evans, single, aged twenty-, five, residing in King Edward street, was riding a motor cycle in Princes street last evening, and when in Customhouse square he collided with a' motor car. He injured his leg, and was removed to the hospital. CONSTABLE’S DEATH. Constable Brown, of Rakaia, who was found unconscious on the floor with head -wounds, and a revolver nearby, died in Ashburton Hospital last night, —Press Association. MOTORIST INJURED. Richard M'Grath, aged 23, was seriously injured yesterday afternoon when a lorry which he was driving on the Mount Pleasant road got out of control and rushed up a bank and capsized, throwing him out on the road. Apparently the wheels skidded when the brakes were applied. M'Grath suffered head injuries, and his condition last night was reported to be very serious* —Christchurch message.
