THE TOWN HALL.
10 THE BDnOS. Sir.—As a visitor to your city permit iiis to say how much I admire your new Town Hall and your beautiful organ, j I listened last night to the musical programme, which was a rare treat, and which 1 thoroughly enjoyed, making special mention of.‘The Deserc.’ This wonderfully characteristic composition is especially fascinating to anyone who has travelled in the East, and the chant of the Muezzin is most compelling. 1 have travelled extensively, and have many times heard the Muezzin call the faithful to prayer. On a former occasion when visiting Dunedin I had the good fortune to hear ‘ The Desert’ sung by the Mai© Choir I think at that tmie.it was the Dunedin Liedertafel. At that concert the chant was given (in the highpitched tones always used by the Muezzin) by Mr Hamilton Eagar, who caught the wild Moslem fanatic spirit to perfection. If Mr Eagar 4s still in Dunedin 1 would like to remind him of the occasion, and to thank him for the great treat he gave me that night. Though 1 have heard the chant many times since, both at Home and on my travels, I have never-heard this exacting number sung better.—l am, etc., Aldeuaean. February 18. .
