TEACH EPS WANT POSITIONS. It was reported to the Education Board to-day that there had been 4,500 applications for positions as teachers during the last two months.—Auckland correspondent. DAMAGED BY FIRE. Damage estimated at £1,200 was caused by a lire which broke out in the Colombo street premises of the Don Tailoring Company and (he City Buffet after midnight. The stock, which suffered most from scorching, was insured for £1,150 in the Mercantile Office.— Christchurch Press Association telegram . STAFFING OF HOSPITALS. The Hon. A. J Stallwoiithy informed a reporter that the British Medical Association had accepted the invitation from the Minister of Health to appoint representatives to a round-table conferenco on the staffing' of the medical and surgical branches of hospitals. The conference will take place at Wellington in three weeks’ time.—Christchurch Press Association telegram. DEATH FROM INJURIES. The death occurred in the hospital of S. Fleming, who was injured by a fall of rock on the Tawa Flat railway deviation at midnight last Thursday.—Wellington Press Association telegram.
