WILDEN BALLOT

THE ARRANGEMENTS ANNOUNCED LAND PURCHASES TO BAIF. [Special t 6 the ‘ Stak.’] WELLINGTON, February 4. The Minister of Lands (Mr Forbes), supplementing the announcement of the Goveriftnent’s purchase of the Wilden estate, nea* Heriot, for- subdivision, states that the surveys will be sufficiently advanced to enable applications to be received and a ballot to take place in the second week of April. There are 24,000 acres of agricultural and pastoral country, in excellent condition. The Government’s total purchases of land for settlement comprise twentyseven properties, aggregating 60,000 acres. There have been 125 additional holdings created as tlie result of this policy, and a large proportion has already been taken up. Following the W’ilden ballot, the late owner (Mr R. Acton Adams) will, stated Mr Forbes, hold a clearance sale of his exceptionally well-known stock. This will give the successful selectors an unusually fine opportunity of stocking their farms with sheep accustomed to the country. The present stock includes 17,000 Corriedale ewes of high quality. Mr Forbes remarked that the Wilden wool clip had held pride of place for years, both in the dominion and London markets. “ Wilden ha? been well handled and is in excellent condition and heart. The property should be eagerly sought for, as it is years since such an opportunity has been before the public.”
