Mr and Mrs P. Leith Ritchie (Roslyn) have returned from a motoring tour in the North Island. They had intended to go as far north as Dargavillo, but floods wore encountered, and this was found impossible. A detour was made round Lake Taupo, Rotorua, Wairakei, and tho Chateau Tongariro were also visited. Wet weather and the bad condition of tho roads made motoring rather unpleasant, but this was amply compensated for by the beauty of the scenery. Mrs Ritchie has brought back many sketches, both in colour and pencil, of the various beautiful scones visited. The overcast skies on Thursday morning did not promise too well for weather conditions at Forbury. With the exception of one heavy shower, however, quite a pleasant afternoon was spent and some excellent racing witnessed. Lady' patrons were well advised to wear almost generally warm wraps and coats, with hero and there a smart tailleur. Small felt hats were much in evidence, and in some cases an umbrella of bright hue was carried. These cheery accessories have helped to ' righten the scene on many a .wet afternoon, and are quite an acquisition to one’s wardrobe in a somewhat damp season. Largo crowds filled both stands. Among others were noticed Mesdames B. S. Irwin, R. S. Black, Hartv, Barton, V. Jacobs, S. Jacobs, Gamble, Robert Hudson, C. Greenslade, Aspiuall, J.
