HORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS The North Island tournament was continued at Wanganui yesterday in fine weather. , In the semi-finals of the men's championship singles Mali'roy (Wellington) beat Wilson (Wellington, 6-0, 6-2; Rhodes-Williams (Christchurch) beat Barkman (Wanganui), 6-1, 6-0; Angas (Christchurch) > beat Lampe (Wanganui), 6-4, 6-1; Charters (Whangar'ei) beat Stedman (Auckland), 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. \ In the men's championship doubles Nicholson and Hubble (Auckland) beat Cox and Udy (Wanganui), 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. t In the mixed doubles Stedman and Mrs Adams (Auckland) beat Hounsell and Miss Marshall (Wanganui), 6-4, 6-3; Rhodes-Williams and Miss Nicholls (Christchurch) beat .Purcell and Miss Purcell (Wanganui), 8-6, 6-1. SOUTH CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS The major events in the South Canterbury championships were concluded at Timaru yesterday. The standard of play throughout the tournament was well up to that of previous years, though entries of leading' players were not as numerous as usual. Results:— Singles.—S. G. M'Dougall (Dunedin) beat W: G. Robertson (Timaru), 3-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, 7-5; Ladies' Singles.—Miss N. Gibson (Timaru) heat Miss N. Sherris (Christchurch), 6-3, 6-4. Men's Doubles.—W. G. Robertson (Timaru) and G. Sumpter (Oamaru) beat W. Pearse (Temuka) and J. L. Mackay (Timaru), 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 ' Ladies' Doubles.—Misses Gibson and Hart (Timaru) beat Mesdames Long (Timaru) and Borrie (Waimate), 6-4, 4-6, 8-6.
