PRIZE DAY AT SCHOOLS

SRIGHTOH Prior to the break-up concert of last evening Brighton school children provided a very ■ successful fancy dress function. The pupils took the floor till 10.30 p.m., and thoroughly delighted the large audience -with their exhibition of marching, folk dances, and nursery games. At the end or the performance the .chairman (Mr D. M‘fntosh), on behalf of the committee, thanked the teachers for the excellent performance. Mr A. J. Allen, on behalf of those present, then congratulated the teachers, and proposed a vote of thanks, which was carried with musical honours. An enjoyable dance followed, the music being supplied by Self’s Orchestra, which had come from Dunedin and given its services free. The result of the function assured a piano for the new school. Last evening the break-up concert was held. A very good programme was given by the pupils, and then the prizes were presented by Mr Comber. Mr Burton, who presided, complimented the teachers (Mrs Morrison and Miss Davidson) on the work of the year. Mitchell presented the prizes in his usual happy style, remarking how solid a foundation the pupils derived from the Hawthorne School.
