CHRISTCHURCH’S 21 IHCEHDJARY FIRES BROTHERS ARRESTED [■Special to the 1 Star,’] WELLINGTON, December 19. The Commissioner of Police is satisfied that the police have substantial evi donee to show the complicity of the brothers Gray in relation to twenty-one fires in Christchurch and approximately ten charges of breaking and entering; also that recent developments enable the police to make a charge in respect of the shooting of Mr Hammond at Christchurch in July, as the finger prints found on Hammond and Turner’s premises are shown to be identical with those of one of the youths Gray now in custody, [A Christchurch message yesterday stated: The capture of the two alleged burglars yesterday at - Christchurch — Wilfred Gray (19) and Charles Robert Gray (17) —was due to Constable A 1 bert Gillum, a young officer onily recently from the Police Training School. It was stated by a prominent official that he “showed courage, intelligence, and determination, and effected a singularly smart capture.” Gillum first caught one man in a right-of-way and handcuffed him, and then awaited the second man (who was armed), surprised him, and made a sudden arrest, taking both to the police station.]
