Oxford street, London, is one of the most popular beggars’ pitches owing to the number of women shoppers. As many as fifty bootlace sellers, hymn-singers, etc., have been counted at one time outside a big shop. Two French airmen, Messrs Costes and Bellonte, flew from Paris to the Tsitsikhar region in Manchuria without a stop. This flights of about 6,000 miles is the longest non-stop aeroplane journey from place to place.
