TWO BIG FEATURES
OCTAGOH NEXT FRIDAY There is much human interest in ‘The Leatherneck,’ one picture coming to the Octagon on Friday, in that it shows friends sticking together and fighting for one another. The action unfolds in China, the principal characters being three American Marines, and one Russian girl. The time is immediately after the revolution in Russia. The motive of the story is the efforts of the hero to find the girl he has married who has been abducted by the villain. The hefo’s two friends, when they discover that the villain is the head of a potash mining concern, go there with the object of finding and rescuing tho heroine and punishing the villain. After many exciting scenes the picture ends happily. Despite the widespread publicity that has been accorded the activities of the “ rum runners ” along the Atlantic coast who, by desperate methods, succeed in getting huge quantities of liquor into the country from foreign ports, few people realise how widespread are the ramifications of that industry both afloat and ashore, and how complete its-system of communication, secret service, and espionage have become. Much of this is vividly revealed in ‘ Blockade,’ RELG’s gripping drama ot tho rum fleet’s battle with Government forces, which is to be tho second attraction at the Octagon. There has been brought to the screen in this smashing production a graphic depiction of the endless warfare that rages between enforcement officers and the outlaws who ply their dangerous trade through storm and stress, under cover of darkness, and at the risk of destruction and ■ death from the guns of Government ships.
