The honorary staff of the Auckland Hospital has appointed from its members a committee of medical experts lo>the purpose of carrying out into cancer. Dr W. Gilmour, bactcN ologist, is chairman. Although iiu> committee will confine its activities chiefiy to Auckland, it will co-operate to a certain extent with the Auckland Hospital Board and the Central Committee in Dunedin. Preliminary proposals for the establishment of a board of control to regulate the marketing of wool were placed before the Government yesterday by a committee of the New Zealand Far mors’ Union. While admitting that cooperation was in the interests of the primary producers, the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) stated that there would have to be a certain amount oi unanimity amongst those interested before any legislation was placed on the Statute Book. Ho said ho would be only too pleased to attend a conference of the various parties which is to be held early in the new year. The Chinese quartermaster of the oil tanker Akera, which has been discharging motor spirits at the Burnham wharf from Balik Papan, was found to be missing yesterday morning (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington). The Chinese members of the crews of the visiting vessels are prohibited from remaining in New Zealand, and the masters of these ships are responsible for a £2OO forfeit for each Chinaman in th’e event of any staying here. Captain Lindstol, oFthe Akera, was required to deposit a bond of £2OO with the Customs for the missing Chinaman before the vessel sailed on the return trip to the East. The missing Chinaman will be sought by the police, and if he is apprehended he will be deported.
