Gilligan and Dnleepsinhji delighted the crowd, the latter being particularly" attractive in all-round play. He batted for sixtyone minutes, and hit nine fours. Giiligan hit six fours. Ducat, the English coach in Queensland, was impressive, but the others went easily before the attack of Oxenham and Hnrwood. Oxenham, who is a test tour “ certainty,” secured three leg-before decisions, two in succession. Barratt aroused enthusiasm by lifting Oxenham for six. The last nine wickets yielded only 40 runs. O'Connor kept wickets well, and the fielding generally was fair. O'Connor and Levy opened the Queensland innings, and the captain was bowled in Nichols's first over. There was no tea adjournment, the English innings having closed between 3 and 4 o’clock for 171.

Levy and Gough wore sissocialcil in a partnership of IBS, which was broken when Levy was caught in the slips.
