THE FLOWER GARDEN
Grass is in full growth now, consequently lawns must be kept regularly mown and rolled if w© are to have, them in the pink of condition. Regular rolling, in addition to mowing, not only gives a lawn a better appearance, but rolling with a good weighty roller helps to destroy the grass grub or the beetle which is the parent of the dreaded grass gruh. Carry on the work of bedding or planting out various kinds of plants. Look over those previously planted, and make good any defects. Remove faded flowers and dead leaves from springflowering plants, and as soon as the tops have ripened oft'_ lift the bulbs where necessary, especially tulips, and refill the spaces with quick-flowering annuals. Then they will he past flowering in time for the replanting of the bulbs.
Hoe and stir the of flower beds, especially, among growing plants, as that will keep down weeds .and stimulate the growth of plants. Stake and tie all tall-growing plants, such as delphiniums, chrysanthemums, hollyhocks, etc., that require supports. Remove suckers from roses, and attend to disbudding, more particularly "where show flowers are required. Stimulate by way of‘mulching or liquid manure will improve them, both in foliage and flowers. A little sulphate of ammonia added to the liquid manure will tend to enrich the colour of the flowers. Keep down green fly by spraying with aphis wash as previously advised.
