HIGH SCHOOLS CRICKET

WAITAKI AND OTAGO DRAW The annual match between the first elevens of the Waitaki and Otago Boys’ High Schools yesterday ended in a draw, Waitaki’s innings closing for 223. . . , The wicket was. drying fast m the afternoon, and Dick, the Waitaki’s opening batsman, had the misfortune to be caught at mid-off by Martin off Rangiheuea’s bowling with his score at 96. Rangiheuea, the left-hand bowler, finished up with the good average of five wickets for 60 runs. It was unusual that no fewer than six men were dismissed by Ibw decisions. Otago made a bad start, and two wickets fell for 17 runs. Then Cameron and Martin became associated in a sound partnership, Cameron playing a very fine innings for 78. The outfield was very dead, and many shots that should have reached the boundary produced only one or two runs. Cameron batted forcefully and found the gaps through the covers with powerful and splendidly timed drives. Martin also played a good innings for 23, and at the drawing of stumps seven wickets were down for 172, the game being drawn. Price, with two for 9, secured the best bowling average for Waitaki.
