ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
SUCCUMBED AFTER COLLAPSE. A Christchurch Association message states that Alartin Henry Jansen, who was taken to Brockleimrst private hospital at Rangiora iu an unconscious condition on Alonday after having collapsed at the Rangiora Races, died to-day, never having regained consciousness. Jansen was employed on the commercial staff of the New Zealand ‘ Referee,’ and resided in Cuba street, Wellington. Ho leaves a widow. FATAL COLLISION, Just before 9 o’clock last night a fatal motor car collision occurred at tike corner of Workshop road and Queen street, Alasterton, as a result of which a. middle-aged woman, the wife of Mr John Darling Smith, of Alasterton, died a few minutes later. Three others —Mr Smith and two young women named Lilian Russell and Grace Jacobsen—were admitted to the Alasterton Hospital suffering from cuts and abrasions. Mr Smith’s injuries’ are not serious. The collision occurred between a five.seater touring car owned and driven by Air Smith and a service car hired for the evening by the driver, A. J. Buck ley. Aiiss Russell was a passenger in Air Smith’s car, and was precipitated on to the road. Aiiss Jacobsen was in the service car. Airs Smith, who was sitting in the front of tho car, received tho full force of the impact.
