ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
FATAL ISSUE OP WAR INJURIES. An inquest was Hold at Waipiro Bay (Gisborne) on Saturday concerning the death of Reginald John Burnett, aged thirty-nine, a married man with font* children, who was found hanging at his homo. The deceased had been employed in the Waipiro Trading Company for the past eight years. Evidence was given by the widow that her husband had always suffered severely from his nerves duo to his war experiences, having been gassed and wounded. He had previously threatened to take his own life. When th* Waipiro Bay Hall, which adjoined their home, was burned to the ground last Sunday, the explosion of a ga* cylinder bad seriously upset him. After 1 other evidence had been beard, th«* jury returned a verdict of death from strangulation, self-inflicted while temporarily insane. A rider was added that the deceased was induced to take his life through injuries received during his war service.—Press Association.
THROWN BY TROTTING MARE. A youth named Clancy was seriously injured at Greymouth through being thrown to the road by the trotting) mare Waipuke, which ho was exerciM ing. He was removed to the but later regained consciousness, SERIOUS INJURIES. Serious injuries were suffered by Oscar Larsen, aged fifty-seven, of m» fixed abode, on Cambridge road on Saturday, when be was knocked down by a service car. Larsen appeared from behind another vehicle. Some ribs and a leg were broken, and he was badly shocked. His condition I* serious.—Hamilton message. MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. William Argyle, single, aged twentythree, while motor cycling at Maitlaaid,crashed into a car driven by George Smaill. of Maitland. Argyle was thrown heavily, and succumbed to head injuries in the Goi-e Hospital. Deceased i« stated to have been on the wrong sid» of the road.—Gore Press Association telegram. MOTOR CYCLIST COLLIDES WITH CAR. Gilbert Burke, a young man, while motor cycling yesterday, collided with a motor car in the city, and received injuries to his neck. He is also suffering from shock, and is in the hospital in a serious condition.—Christchurch Press Association telegram.
