(Received October 28 ( at 1.10 p.m.) Mr Robert Abbott, a wealthy negro newspaper proprietor of Chicago, has cabled to Mr Marley, a member of the House of Commons, complaining that he and his wife were not onty refused accommodation in London hotels on account of their colour, but when they were returning first class aboard the Aquitania they were forced into the grill room and deprived of music and other entertainment. Mr Marley, who is raising the matter in Parliament, stated that three prominent coloured pez'sons were recently excluded from London dance halls, and that he had written to Lord Passfield (Foreign Secretary) resenting the affront. The proprietor of one of the dance halls, interviewed, declared that his hall was intended for whites only, and he absolutely refused to admit coloured people, however eminent.
