Back-blocks Reading To Induce Settlement
The Public Works Statement and Estimates of the Minister of Works (Mr Ransom) were laid on the table of the House of Representatives this morning, Mr Forbes (actir>grLeader)_ stating that they would be discussed next week. Mr Ransom estimates that £5,001,339 will be required from the ordinary fund, which has supplementary special sources providing for electric supply, main highways, railways improvement, educational buildings, involving nearly £4,000,000 more. Last year’s vote from the ordinary fund was £4,661,898. The Estimates include £20,000 on account of £250,000 for Dunedin’s new Chief Post Office, and £IO,OOO for the Dunedin Obstetric Hospital,
