FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25, (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) FURTHER REMAND. When Daniel Craig Miller Andrews was charged with being intoxicated ip charge of a motor- car Sub-inspector Cummings said that it would be at least two months before the principal witness would be able to attend. Tho accused was remanded till January 17, bail being renewed, self in £IOO and one surety of £IOO. Accused was ordered to report to the police weekly. CHIMNEY FIRES. Charged with allowing his chimney to catch fire, Patrick Bourke was fined os and costs Robert William Cuthbertson, similarly charged, was fined 10s and costs. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was remanded till tomorrow for medical observationBREACH OF PROHIBITION ORDER. “ This is the fourth' breach of the order,” said Sub-inspector Cummings m respect to a charge against Charles William Chapman (Mr B. S. Irwin) of procuring liquor whilst prohibited. Mr Irwin said ho had explained to Chapman that he could not go on receiving the leniency of- the court, and he had promised to abstain from liquor altogether. He worked very hard and earned good money. The Magistrate warned Chapman that if he persisted in breaking his order he would be sent to Roto-roa. The defendant was fined 10s and costa. UNLAWFULLY ON LICENSED PREMISES. Robert Dick Bain, charged with being on licensed premises after hours, did not appear, and was fined 20s and costs. Charles Ernest Frost and Lindsay Parker were similarly charged.—Subinspector Cummings said that first ol all the defendants stated they had gone in to see the licensee. Later they said it was for liquor.—Each defendant was fined 20s and costs. MOTORING BREACHES. Appearing on behalf of George Percival Cuttnss, who was charged with permitting an unlicensed motor car to bo used, Sir G. T. Baylee entered a plea of guilty, defendant being fined court costs (10s). Sydney Arthur Bremford did not appear to answer a charge of negligently driving a motor car, Constable Cooper stating that at the time of the offence, which was a race day, defendant had gone out of a queue doing twenty-five miles an hour, and passed three other cars at thirty miles an hour.—Fined £2 10s and costs. Ernest Davis was charged with being an unlicensed driver, and also with negligent driving.—Police evidence was given to the effect that the defendant, while on the wrong side of the road, turned from Rattray street into Vogel street and collided with another vehicle.—On the first charge he was fined 20s and cost's, and the charge of negligent driving was withdrawn. Robert Victor Hodgson was fined 5s and costs for having an unlighted motor cycle. Charged with causing an obstruction in High street, Charles Parnell was fined 10s and costs. For operating a motor cycle without a silencer Richard J. F. Purvis was fined; 10s and costs. Mr M'Nicoll remarking that the silencer was now in good order. INCOME TAX RETURN. Edwin Sharp (Mr C. J. Payne) was charged with failing to render a return of income. Mr W. D. Taylor appeared for the Commissioner of Taxes, and said that the defendant was a plasterer in business in Moruington, and for the last three years bad not made a return. Mr Payne said defendant’s accountant had disappeared and left him in the lurch, the books being lost. Dofenant had since got the data and the returns were now made. Fined £2 and costs (£3 13s). CAR INSURANCE. Involved in one case were Hugh Wilfred Mercer and Todd Motors, Ltd. The former was charged with using an unlicensed motor car, and the latter with failing to insure the car. Mr. Payne appeared for Todd Motors, who pleaded guilty. Sub-inspector Cummings said the question of third party risks was involved The defendant wont to Todd’s with a car, on which he had been using demonstration numbers, and took numbers from another car. He was employed by the firm as a salesman, and, therefore, the (inn was also liable. Tho car was unregistered and unlicensed. Mr Payne: It was against instructions that be took the numbers off the car. “ The provisions must be complied with,” said His Worship, as lie fined Todd Motors 20s and costs, and Mercer court costs 10s.
