AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ST. PATRICK’S CLUB St. Patrick’s School was crowded to its utmost capacity on Wednesday night, when the St. Patrick’s Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club held its annual social and presentation of prizes. The evening was taken up for the most part by dancing, but very enjoyable vocal items were rendered by the Rev. Father Hally and Misses 3lead and Baker. On one table were displayed the juTzes won during the season, and many wero the expressions of surprise that a club of sucli youth should have such a choice array of useful prizes. A notable feature was that the selections of the prize-winners included fewer medals and articles of purely ornamental value than is usually found in such prize lists. The president (Mr L. 3larlow) and the secretary (Mr L. Carroll) welcomed those present, remarking that the fact that so many were there argued well for the future success of the club. They also thanked the various people who had helped the club during the year, especially those who had provided social evenings after the Saturday runs. Among those present were Mr R. Thompson, of the Otago Centre, N.Z. A.A.A., and representatives of several of the other harrier clubs of the city. Mrs L. Marlow and her daughter, Winnie (club mascot) presented the prizes to tho successful runners. A pleasing feature was that seven attendance badges were amongst the trophies.
