At the meeting of the_ Harbour Board last night a motion congratulate ing Captain Coll MfDonald on his selection as one of the commissioners in connection with the proposed harbour bridge across the Auckland Harbour was carried. At yesterday’s meeting of the Technical College Board of Managers the resignation of Miss E. H. Owen as a. member of the staff was received. Ou the motion of Mr J. T. Paul the following motion was carried:—“ That the board places on record its regret at the resignation of Miss Owen, and expresses its appreciation of her work. A large party of friends of the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher gathered at the railway station yesterday morning to bid him God-speed on his departure from Dunedin for Auckland. Prior to his leaving Mr Fletcher received the following telegram from the Minister of Health (the Hon. A. J. StMlworthy) “ I rejoice that so many young men and women are making the greatest of all decisions. God grant they may soon bring some consecrated blood and fire into the great work of the application of Christian ideals to the practical politics of our beloved young country.” The following scholarships, etc., have been awarded at Canterbury College John Connal Scholarship, H. B. Low;. Sir George Gray Scholarship, E. R. Cooper; Haydon prize in physics, E. tl. Cooper; same in chemistry, J. S. Fitzgerald.—Press Association telegram Reference was made at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Shipwreck Relief Society of New Zealand by the president (Mr G. L. Denniston) to tlia loss sustained by the death of Sin George Fan wick,- who had been a member of the society practically from its inception. The following minute was passed;—“The New Zealand Shipwreck Relief Society desires to record its deep regret at the Joss the committee has ' sustained in the death of Sir George Fenwick. A member-of the committee almost from the inception of the association, he gave it tne same devotion and care he bestowed ou all work ho put his hand to. and his counsel will bo greatly missed.” It was resolved to forward a copy of the minute to Lady Fenwick. Mr G W. Bousche (Sydney), Mr K. Sample (Melbourne), Messrs G. ... Dawson and Angus Macdonald (Wellington), Mr and Mrs Frank Egan, Mr R. W. Miclgley (Christchurch), Dr and Miss Hogg (Invercargill) are registered at the Grand Hotel.
