AEROPLANE WRECKAGE

FOUND ON AUSTRALIAN COAST IS IT THE ftOTEAROA 1 Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright* ADELAIDE, October 22. (Received October 22, at 9.30 a.m.) A fisherman named Taylor found a portion ot an aeroplane wing on tha rocks near the Cape Bamks lighthouse. Speculation is rife as to whether ft formed part of the machine in which Hood and Moncrieff attempted their flight across the Tasman. The direction of the ocean currents along the south coast is from west to east. [On Jamuary 10, 1928, Lieutenant J. R. Moncrieff and Captain G. Hood left Richmond Aerodrome in their plane, the Aotearoa, for New Zealand. The start was made at 2.44 a.m. (5.14 a.m. New Zealand time), and at dawn the plane passed over the steamer Maunganui, bound for Sydney. The flyers’ prearranged signals were heard up to 11.20 a.m.—then there was silence.]
